For as long as I remember, I have loved the night sky. I am a night person. I stay up late, and I sleep late in the morning. It hasn't always been the best scenario for life''s events like work and school, but I do my best thinking t night.
Watching the heavens on a crystal clear summer night is one of my favorite things.
About 25 years ago, I purchased a small telescope for our family. We have 6 children (all grown now), and I wanted to show them the night sky. I purchased a reflector scope that was on a Goto mount, and about 4 inches in diameter from the local planetarium. I was so excited to give it to the family for Christmas
After a not so successful experience with a really cheaply built scope and mount, I told my wife that one of two things needed to happen
1) We spend a LOT more money and get better equipment, knowing that it would be a hobby that would be expensive for the long term, or
2) Put it aside for now, and pursue other things.
With the budget of a struggling family, and an insatiable desire to get the best equipment I could, I put it aside.
